Governor's Labor/Management Conference

The 25th Annual Governor’s Labor/Management Conference was held at the Grand Hotel at Point Clear June 7-11, 2009.

The Alabama Governor's Labor/Management Conference had its beginning in May 1985 under the direction of then Commissioner of Labor Allen Pate at Lakepoint State Park with approximately 185 participants. Its purpose is to bring together labor and management employees in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss issues of a common nature. The conference is incorporated with a board of directors and is jointly hosted by the Alabama Department of Labor and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. Attendance quickly outgrew the Lakepoint and Guntersville State Park facilities and was moved to Gulf State Park Resort in the early 1990s.

The primary goal of the conference is to provide an environment allowing labor and management to come together in a friendly setting away the bargaining table.  Speakers have been selected based on issues facing both management and labor such as FMLA, drug testing, workplace security, health care cost, etc. Interactive workshops are scheduled as facilities permit. Companies and unions are encouraged to sponsor activities through monetary donations and door prizes. American made products are highlighted and especially Alabama produced goods.

Delegate and guest attendance has grown to over 500, making Alabama's Labor Management Conference one of the most successful in the South.
